NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials) Training Course

Advanced NORM management training for operations, HSE and environmental teams in oil, gas and mining.

Course Overview

Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) are encountered throughout oil and gas production, water treatment and mining operations. This three-day programme provides comprehensive technical training on NORM identification, radiological assessment, waste classification and the regulatory requirements applicable to NORM management in the Gulf region.

Participants will develop the skills to conduct NORM surveys, interpret measurement data, select appropriate control measures, classify and manage NORM-contaminated waste, and prepare regulatory documentation.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify NORM sources and pathways in oil & gas and industrial operations
  • Explain the radiological hazards posed by NORM and establish appropriate controls
  • Select and operate appropriate field measurement instruments for NORM survey
  • Classify NORM-contaminated materials and waste streams according to regulatory criteria
  • Develop NORM management plans in accordance with IAEA and national guidance
  • Implement safe work procedures for personnel working with NORM
  • Prepare NORM assessment reports and regulatory submissions
